Former deputy gets probation for punching inmate

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A former Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy is receiving probation for punching an inmate.

Kymbal Britt appeared in Sedgwick County District Court Tuesday for a status hearing. At the hearing, he waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to one count of battery.

Britt was given six months probation with an underlying sentence of six months in jail if he violates the terms of his probation. Britt was accused of punching an inmate multiple times at the jail back on April 22 while he was working as a detention deputy.

Sheriff releases new information WPD officer-involved shooting

According to the sheriff’s office, he was immediately removed from duty. A criminal investigation followed , which led to a charge of battery.

Britt had been with the department for just over one year at the time of the incident.
