Tropical Storm Debby pours rain on Conway, roads close, cars crash, residents barbecue

With Tropical Storm Debby pouring rain down on the Conway area, some roads have been closed due to waterlogging, while some motorists have gotten into accidents.

The Conway Police Department via Facebook announced that Boundary Street at Main Street and University Boulevard at Graduate Road were closing due to the weather and would continue to update locals on the road openings and closings.

Road crews put up signs and blocked off parts of the Boundary Street and Main Street intersection, as water made the area hard to navigate.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Conway, SC, at the intersection near the Jamestown Baptist Church at 2916 4th Ave, Conway, SC 29527, police and tow trucks responded to a several-car accident that momentarily disrupted traffic. It’s unclear what caused the accident.

According to the National Weather Service forecast for Aug. 7, 2024, Tropical Storm Debby could pour between two and three inches of rain onto the Conway area as it progresses. While some streets have had puddles form and backyards soaked with rainfall, one Conway resident took to Facebook to document how he was riding out the storm, posting a video of himself barbecuing as the rain fell on their front lawn and neighborhood.
