Missy Elliott honored during concert stop in Hampton

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Missy Elliott has racked up a list of accomplishments that are truly — out of this world.

Appropriately, the Portsmouth native received some well-deserved recognition during her “Out of This World” concert stop at the Hampton Coliseum .

Congressman Bobby Scott presented Elliot with with a Congressional Certificate Of Community Service from the United States Congress.

“It would be a crime — a ‘Misdemeanor’! — not to recognize you, and to thank you for all you’ve done, not only with the fame and fortune, but giving back to the community,” said Congressman Bobby Scott.

Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck declared Aug. 2 as “Out of This World Tour Day” in the City of Hampton and Delegate Don Scott, Speaker of the House of Delegates, presented her with a resolution for her first arena tour.

In 2022, Gov. Glenn Youngkin recognized Oct. 17 as Missy Elliott Day in Virginia , and in 2023 Portsmouth hosted a renaming ceremony and parade to rename McLean Street to Missy Elliott Boulevard.
