Over the past couple of months, I’ve written about several diverse specialty retailers that were opening new Florida stores. Examples are Presidente, Lotte Market, and Compare Foods Supermarket, to name a few. And now, there is a new specialty store on the horizon – Daiso – and Tampa will be home to Florida’s first store.
About Daiso: This is a 50-year-old, family-owned company that strives to be your one-stop shop for every household need. They sell various discount items (around 100,000) in categories like home decor, stationery, food, toys, and novelties, to name a few examples. There are 6,000 locations of the Japanese-headquartered store around the world and 100 in the United States.
I’d normally offer a review from a Floridian, but since there are no Daiso stores in Florida yet, I can report that shoppers in Texas give Daiso 4.2 out of 5 stars on Yelp. Some compare it to a dollar store. A reviewer named Matthew wrote, in part:
“…I’d strongly recommend going here at least once. Extremely cheap by design (everything is under about $5), and while they don’t have everything, you can find most basic home or office supplies here, among many other things. Since it’s a Japanese company, most items sold here are extremely useful, even if some of them are a bit niche.”
