New skate park in Riverside is now open to the public. Take a look.

Jacksonville’s Artist Walk Skate Park officially opened for public use Thursday morning.

The $8 million park was completed in the spring but had to go through a finalization process with the Florida Department of Transportation for the six acres of land.

The park was a long time in the making, with early stages of the process dating back to 2017. The design team and city worked to make the park a “recognizable space,” incorporating the letters “JAX” as a focal point, and taking input from community members over the last few years of the design and construction process.

City officials including Mayor Donna Deegan and skaters attended the 8 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony for the highly anticipated opening.
