Wylie ISD opens 2024-2025 school year looking toward the future

WYLIE (1080 KRLD)- Students in Wylie ISD returned to class Thursday. The district in Collin County is growing with almost 20,000 students now and planning to add 3,100 more over the next ten years.

In 2025, Wylie ISD will start construction on a new intermediate school and junior high school. Voters approved a bond last year that will also provide for construction of a new elementary school, renovations at a pre-kindergarten center, security enhancements throughout the district and expansions of career-technical education centers.

The principal and teachers at Draper Intermediate School and Cooper Junior High greeted kids as they arrived Thursday morning. Cheerleaders also lined the entrance to Cooper.

“The kids were all really excited. They couldn’t sleep last night,” one dad said. “They were glad to come back, so that’s a change from when I was a kid.”

“My kid’s an introvert, but when she comes to school, she reaches out. I think school’s helping her become an extrovert,” another said.
