Severe Weather Alert: Flood Watch and Tornado Threat Loom Over Central New York

Heavy Rain and Possible Tornadoes Expected

Binghamton, NY The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton has issued a Flood Watch for central New York and northeast Pennsylvania, effective from 8 AM EDT Friday through late Friday night. The region is also under the threat of severe thunderstorms, with the potential for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

Flooding Risk Due to Heavy Rainfall

The Flood Watch covers a broad area including cities such as Syracuse, Binghamton, and Scranton. The NWS warns that excessive rainfall could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams, as well as urban and low-lying areas. The potential for creeks and streams to rise out of their banks is a significant concern, particularly in areas prone to poor drainage.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” the NWS stated. Residents are advised to monitor the latest weather updates and be prepared to take immediate action if flood warnings are issued.
