DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Four brownfield sites in the Miami Valley are receiving funding to be revitalized.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced Friday that four local brownfield sites would receive funding for either assessment, clean up or remediation. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a brownfield site is a property proposed for redevelopment or reuse, and could have a “hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.”
“There is no easy way to clean up the contamination at these sites; they all need expert remediation that’s too costly for communities to take on alone,”
Brownfield Site: Butler County
A former AK Steel Research Facility in Butler County is set to receive $3,117,090 to clean up and remediate the location. According to DeWine, the facility has “significant asbestos and universal waste contamination.”
Upon completion, EI Ceramics is expected to move into the location. The move will add seven jobs and hold the 66 current positions.
