Missing service dog discovered to be dead after water main break

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s a sad update to the missing dog from the exploding water main two weeks ago.

The service dog that went missing in northeast Albuquerque has now been found dead in the rubble.

“She shouldn’t have gone, thought that no dog should go through that,” said Ivy’s owner Rose Romero.

Romero is left heartbroken knowing her beloved service dog will no longer be by her side. She has had Ivy for almost 14 years.

“She was a good dog, very loyal. She didn’t deserve this,” said Romero.

Ivy went missing after a water main exploded on July 28. The blast and water caused Romero’s garage to collapse. People searched for Ivy since the blast until she was found Thursday night.

Last night, someone broke into the remains of the garage, and on Friday morning, city engineers confirmed the discovery of Ivy’s body. They recovered the body and allowed Romero a chance to say goodbye to Ivy.

“I’ve asked for an autopsy because I need to know what happened and how long she suffered I need to know that before I move on with this,” said Romero.
