Northern Nevada Weekend Forecast: Smoke, Haze, Heat Make for Uncomfortable Mix

Smoke and haze from the Park and Crozier wildfires will continue to affect portions of northeast California and northwest Nevada through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The extent of the smoke’s impact will depend on the fires’ activity, with similar conditions expected unless the fires intensify. The current wind patterns may bring smoke to areas such as the south end of the Truckee Meadows and the Tahoe Basin, with air quality information available at fire.airnow.gov.

Breezy winds are forecast from Friday through Monday, raising fire weather concerns and creating choppy conditions on area lakes. Winds are expected to be strongest on Sunday night, with gusts potentially exceeding 30 mph. These winds will usher in a cooler air mass, bringing relief from the recent hot weather. By Monday, temperatures are expected to drop to near or below normal, with cooler nights helping to improve relative humidity recovery. The longer-term forecast suggests that this cooler, breezy pattern will continue through next week.
