TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The tropical system hanging out in the Atlantic Ocean now has an 80% chance of development, according to the National Hurricane Center.

An increase in showers and thunderstorms has been detected within the wave, which is expected to gradually develop over the next several days.

Parrish resident says 6-foot flooding in backyard was from more than just rain

The NHC said within 48 hours, the system has a 30% chance of cyclone formation but has ramped up to 80% over the next seven days as it moves west.

According to the NHC, it is possible for it to form into a tropical depression early next week.

“The good news is that it’s expected to turn to the north several hundred miles east of Florida,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Eric Stone said.
