The Motor City may not be known for league races, but there’s no doubt drivers have an extra chip on their shoulder when heading to Michigan International Speedway for a race. The FireKeepers Casino 400 is about to kick off, set for Sunday, Aug. 18 from the Brooklyn, Michigan, track.
It’s a race that matters more than just bragging rights. Only a couple more races remain in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series afterwards, so drivers have only three final chances at making a move for the playoffs. A win, or top finish, in the FireKeepers Casino 400 could make a world of difference.
Chris Buescher enters as the defending driver, and he’ll need another good showing to remain in the Cup Series playoff picture. Fortunately for everyone, Kevin Harvick won’t be on the track this year. He’s a five-time winner of the race at Michigan International Speedway tying him with David Pearson as the winningest drivers of the track.
