Jonesville grad Zachary Mains continues his golf career at Kalamazoo College

JONESVILLE — Another former Jonesville boys golfer is making the transition from high school sports to collegiate athletics.

Zachary Mains, a class of 2024 graduate, is heading to Kalamazoo College to continue his education and athletic career. Mains was a key contributor to the Jonesville boys golf team, helping them earn back-to-back Big 8 championships in 2022 and 2023.

The coach’s award and team MVP honoree’s choices to continue his education included Kalamazoo, Clemson and North Carolina, but the financial opportunities at Kalamazoo College had brought him back to the state of Michigan. His decision to continue his golf career came down to an opportunity presented to him by the men’s coach Holden Price.

“I wanted to go to school at Kalamazoo College for academics, and when the coach saw my scores, he asked me if I wanted to play there,” Mains said. “It really was the opportunity. I have fun doing it and the team goes on all kinds of trips, and they play golf all over the country.”
