Six central Kentucky counties working on climate action plans

Six central Kentucky counties are collaborating on regional climate action plans. The idea is to develop strategies to lower greenhouse gas emissions in the bluegrass area.

The regional plans for Fayette, Scott, Bourbon, Clark, Jessamine, and Woodford Counties are funded through a federal EPA grant. The first phase of planning focused on projects ready for implementation. Lexington Sustainability Program Manager Jada Griggs said those included tree canopy, solar paneling, weatherization, and LexTran initiatives.

“And then also a regional electric vehicle charging study that would identify the demand for future public electric vehicle charging stations,” said Griggs.

Regional meetings will be held in each county to seek citizen comments on establishing a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan.

Lexington’s meeting is set for August 20th, from 5:30 to 7:00 at the Marksbury Public Library on Versailles Road.

Griggs said the ultimate strategy is to lower greenhouse gas emissions and the carbon footprint.
