Venue Change For Aug. 13 Kickoff Event For Pinellas County Walk To End Alzheimer’s

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is world’s largest event dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support and research

It’s time to kick off the Pinellas County Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Thursday, August 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. now being held at Quaker Steak & Lube located at 10400 49th Street North in Clearwater.

This special event is open to the public and will give a glimpse of what this year’s walk will look like and a chance to learn more about the Alzheimer’s Association, how to get involved and create your own team.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, starting at 8 a.m., the Pinellas County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held at Poynter Park, located at 1000 3rd Street in Pinellas County. This year’s local presenting sponsors are BayCare, Morton Plant Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In Florida, there are more than 580,000 people living with the disease and 840,000 unpaid dementia caregivers. Pinellas County has an estimated 30,400 people or 12 percent over the age of 65 living with Alzheimer’s. New treatments to help slow down the progression of the disease have been approved as recently as July and are giving families hope for the first time.
