SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Summer vacation is now in the rear-view mirror for many students across the Suncoast. Monday marks the first day of a new school year for students in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte Counties. While teachers have been preparing for the big day, districts tell ABC 7 they’ve been working on some security upgrades and procedures to help keep everyone safer. First responders in all counties confirming they’ll have extra patrols out this week ensuring drivers are following posted speed limits in school zones.
