Quad State Area Prepares for Potential Flooding and Isolated Severe Storms

Paducah, KY — National Weather Service – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, Kentucky, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook early Monday morning, alerting residents across southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri to the potential for unsettled weather throughout the week.

Isolated Thunderstorms Possible Today

For today, Monday, August 12, the NWS forecasts the possibility of isolated thunderstorms primarily over western portions of southeast Missouri. While these storms are not expected to be severe, brief heavy downpours and lightning are the primary concerns.

Heavy Rain and Flooding Risk from Midweek

The weather is set to take a more serious turn starting Tuesday, with daily chances of thunderstorms continuing through Saturday. The NWS warns that from Tuesday night through Friday, heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding across the Quad State region. There is also a possibility of a few strong to severe storms, especially on Thursday and Friday, which could bring damaging winds and further exacerbate flooding risks.
