First day of class for Mobile Archdiocese schools

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Back to school continues. It’s the first day of class for thousands of students around the Archdiocese of Mobile.

When you talk about the Catholic Church–it’s a branch of Christianity that stretches back centuries–while Little Flower Catholic School isn’t that old, it is marking a milestone of 90 years.

To get ready for the school year the Mobile Archdiocese hosted its annual teacher orientation and mass at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope just a few days ago. Hundreds of educators from around the Archdiocese came together to learn more about what they’ll be doing this year. For the first time in decades the Mobile Archdiocese has a new superintendent of schools. Chad Barwick says they’re expecting growth of the student body but they also want to make sure that growth is manageable.

“We want to make sure that we have the right number of students for that number of teachers to keep classroom sizes small. But our primary goal is to be evangelical, to welcome people to a relationship with Jesus,” said Barwick. It’s a day a lot of the staff looks forward to every year.
