Bay City News

A Stockton man was convicted for fatally shooting his girlfriend in 2020, the San Joaquin County District Attorney announced Monday.

Michael Ramirez, 34, was found guilty by a jury of the second-degree murder of Belen Jimenez on Aug. 14, 2020, inside his residence, as well as an enhancement for using a firearm in the murder.

Additionally, he was convicted of felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and misdemeanor contempt of court for violating a criminal protective order, prosecutors said.

The Stockton Police Department, which investigated the case, said on the day of Jimenez’s death officers had responded to a person shot in the 2800 block of Admiral Drive.

The 33-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound at the scene.

She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

The DA’s office said on the day the murder was committed Ramirez was on probation for a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction from 2019.

He was legally prohibited from possessing firearms and was under a criminal protective order that mandated he stay away and not have contact with Jimenez.
