Annual Clear the Shelters campaign kicks off at Humane Society of Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you have been wanting to adopt a new furry friend, this month is great timing.

NBC’s Universal’s “Clear the Shelters” campaign has kicked off and runs through Sept. 10.

To celebrate this pet adoption and donation initiative, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay is waiving all adoption fees for pets over three months.

“It is huge to clear the kennel space and then be able to help more people and more dogs,” said Regan Blessinger, Humane Society of Tampa Bay director of marketing and content.

Blessinger also introduced our 8 On Your Side Team to “Buddy” a 9-year-old dog who has been at the shelter since March 2024.

“He is pretty calm, but he does have little bursts of energy, which is nice,” she said. “Some senior dogs are very couch potato-ey, he’s only like part-time.”

If you are interested in adopting Buddy, check out the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s website.

News Channel 8 has teamed up with dozens of local animal shelters and rescues this month.
