Dead flies, mold-like substance rodent droppings – Florida restaurant closed after inspection

It’s a real blow when a beloved local spot faces trouble, especially one that brings a taste of New York to sunny Florida. Bogart’s American Kitchen in Cooper City, a favorite among locals and visitors for its hearty breakfasts and live entertainment, recently had to shut its doors temporarily due to some concerning inspection findings.

Bogart’s American Kitchen, located at 2721 N Hiatus Road, has been a go-to for five years. Known for its generous portions and friendly vibe, it’s a hit with many patrons. On Google, it holds a solid 4.3-star rating.

So, what went wrong? According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection on July 23, 2024, uncovered 19 violations at the restaurant. Some issues were pretty basic, like dead flies in a zapper device, a cutting board that wasn’t cleanable, and uncovered cooked potatoes in the cooler.

More troubling were the intermediate violations, including a moldy can opener blade and the lack of a probe thermometer to check food temperatures. But the real red flags were the high-priority issues: rodent droppings spotted around the restaurant, roast beef stored at an unsafe temperature, and raw eggs stored above cut tomatoes.
