San Jose restaurant burglarized day after attempted break-in

SAN JOSE, Calif. ( KRON ) – In San Jose’s Evergreen neighborhood, thieves hit a restaurant Monday night that was still cleaning up after an attempted break-in last week. Businesses say they’re worried the constant crimes might force them to shut their doors.

A suspected burglar squeezed through an opening just over a foot tall early Tuesday morning before having his way with merchandise at Funny Farm Restaurant. Monica Levi, co-owner of Funny Farm, says this is the sixth break-in at her restaurant since 2021.

There was an attempted break-in just a few days ago. Also last week, a nearby café was burglarized.

“It’s heartbreaking to think we may not be able to stick around,” Levi said. “It’s a big possibility. Where do you find the money? The debt is astronomical already.”

This time, alcohol and tablets were stolen. Levi says none of it is covered by insurance. The restaurant has set up a GoFundMe to help cover expenses.
