A Michigan man is charged with first-degree murder after the shooting of a 35-year-old father who lived in his neighborhood, police say,
Devereaux Christopher Johnson, 47, could face life in prison without parole after he shot his 35-year-old neighbor in a residential neighborhood in Canton, Michigan, which is around 30 miles from Detroit, said the Canton Public Safety Department in a Facebook post.
“This was a senseless act of violence toward the victim,” said Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh in a statement . “The Canton Police Department sends our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, and to the neighbors who may have witnessed this tragic event.”
A press release from the department stated that Johnson was charged on Monday and is being held at Wayne County jail without bond .
He is being charged with the following, according to police:
- Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated
- Possession of a firearm by someone with a felony
- Two counts of Felony Firearm
Johnson will appear in court again on August 23.
