Mechanical failure leads to another Fairhope water emergency

FAIRHOPE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Fairhope has required residents to limit their water use since Monday afternoon due to a mechanical failure in one of the city’s main water wells.

The malfunction took about a million gallons of water out of circulation for the city to use.

“It’s really just a mechanical failure,” Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan said. “I keep comparing it to like your air conditioner at home. When you have mechanical parts, things are going to happen.”

Sullivan said the issue with the well should be resolved by the end of the week.

The replacement piece for the pump was installed on Wednesday, and city officials said they’re expecting the well to be in production within 48 hours.

“We’re hoping to reevaluate by Monday and to hopefully be able to lift some of the restrictions,” Sullivan said.
