Governor Youngkin Orders All Flags to be Flown at Half Staff August 16

RICHMOND, Va. — Governor Glenn Youngkin announced an order for all United States and Virginia State Flags to be flown at half-staff on Friday, August 16, 2024.

On August 15, Governor Youngkin issued this statement via email:

In accordance with the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of Roxane Gatling Gilmore, former First Lady of Virginia.

I hereby order that the flags shall be lowered at sunrise on Friday, August 16, 2024, and remain at half-staff until sunset.

Mrs. Gilmore was the wife of Jim Gilmore, who served as the Commonwealth’s governor from 1998-2002. She passed away in Richmond on August 7 at the age of 70. Her funeral ceremony will be held Saturday, August 17.
