Excessive Heat Warning in effect for North Texas starting Friday

The longest stretch of 100-plus-degree weather this year started last Wednesday and will continue through the middle of next week. A few lucky ones will see a rogue shower or storm Friday. Gusty wind and lightning will be the threats.

For the first time this year, Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued for Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, McKinney, Gainesville, Sherman, Denison, and points east. These warnings will most likely continue through the weekend. Everybody else is under Heat Advisories. Heat index values Friday through the weekend will range between 107 and 112 degrees. Surface temperatures will range between 99 and 105 degrees. The hottest temperatures will be felt west of Interstate 35W. This is where a critical grass fire danger resides.

The intense heat will continue through most of next week with afternoon highs ranging between 100 and 105 degrees Monday and Tuesday and from 97-101 Wednesday and Thursday. There’s also a chance of rain returning to areas east of Dallas-Fort Worth on Wednesday and Thursday.
