Oklahoma City Police Department announces next police chief

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – The Oklahoma City Police Department has announced its next police chief.

In March 2024, Oklahoma City Police Chief Wade Gourley announced his retirement after 34 years of service. He had agreed to stay employed with the city until his position was filled.

The department announced that Deputy Chief Ron C. Bacy has been chosen as the next Oklahoma City Police Chief.

Officials say Deputy Chief Bacy has worked in the OKCPD since August 1992. His career began as a patrol officer in the Springlake Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2002 and served in the Santa Fe and Springlake patrol divisions. He was also a Field Training Officer supervisor, Emergency Response Team supervisor and an on-call Public Information Officer.

Bacy later worked in the Training and the Special Investigations Division. He was promoted to captain in 2010 and worked with the Operations Bureau, the Investigations Bureau and the Office of Professional Standards.
