Wenonah High School to host ‘prayer walk’

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Wenonah High School is hosting its first annual “prayer walk” Saturday.

This comes as many students have experienced tragedies from violence over the years, so school leaders and area pastors are going to walk with the community through the school grounds to offer prayers and celebrate unity.

Victoria Segres is the assistant principal and had the idea to host the event. She joined the CBS 42 Morning News on Saturday. She said elements outside academics affect the students’ lives, including the uptick of violence in the area.

“We want to use all resources — including our spiritual resources, our connection to our creator — to make sure that we provide our students with a safe learning environment where they feel comfortable, where they feel they can be themselves, where they can grow and where they can just experience just sheer joy,” Segres said.

Segres came from Aiken High School in South Carolina before this. She said a prayer walk is something she used to do at that school.
