Severe Weather Developing Across Parts of Kansas, Likely to Slide Into Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas

Severe Thunderstorm Watches Posted in Parts of Kansas, May be Extended & Expanded

08/16/24 3:48pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. As expected and discussed in this morning’s article, severe weather was likely to develop across areas of the 4 corners of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

Unfortunately, we’re off to an earlier start and slightly further to the west and northwest. Regardless, these storms will make it to their eventual & forecasted destination later this afternoon, evening, and overnight hours.

Heavy thunderstorms across Kansas have had a history of very large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 4pm CDT in parts of Kansas.

As the afternoon wears on and evening arrives, it is likely that these watches will be extended and expanded as severe weather moves on and transits into the originally forecasted area for heavy weather. Even though we do not have any tornado watches at this time, we also cannot rule out a few tornadoes.
