Moncks Corner Police investigate fatal pedestrian collision on North Hwy. 52

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Moncks Corner Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on North Hwy. 52 early Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the scene in front of Zaxby’s at 507 N. Hwy. 52, at approximately 5:23 a.m. on August 17.

According to the preliminary investigation, a motorist driving a Chevrolet Silverado was heading south on North Hwy. 52 when the vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Jack Baron Yarborough, a 62-year-old homeless man. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

As a result of the collision, all lanes of North Hwy. 52 between Rembert C. Dennis Blvd. and Epson Plantation Dr. were temporarily closed while investigators conducted their work. The roadway was reopened at 7:11 a.m.
