Northern Nevada Weather Forecast: Gusty Winds and Cooler Temperatures Expected in Reno

Gusty winds are making a significant impact across the region today, with southwest to west gusts reaching 35-45 mph in lower elevations and up to 70-80 mph on Sierra ridgetops. These conditions are causing concerns for fire weather, aviation, and outdoor activities, with impacts expected to continue into the evening.

The windy weather is due to a shortwave trough moving through the area, bringing a chance of showers to western Lassen County. Temperatures will remain slightly below normal through next week, with chilly conditions expected tonight, especially in Sierra valleys where temperatures may approach freezing.

Looking ahead, the winds are expected to decrease somewhat on Sunday, but breezy conditions will persist throughout the week. By the end of the week, another upper cyclone could bring even cooler temperatures, increased precipitation, and gusty winds, signaling a significant shift towards fall-like weather.
