Alexander Mountain Fire rebuild program introduced to help impacted homeowners

Larimer County will soon initiate a disaster rebuild program for the Alexander Mountain Fire that will include some tools for people whose homes were impacted by the fire.

The program would be similar to what the county has done after previous wildfires.

“The final count is 27 homes were destroyed … four had minor damage, and 21 outbuildings were destroyed. So that gives us 52 total, which is 52 individual tragedies, but it could have been a lot worse because the firefighters protected so many of the homes up there,” said Eric Fried, the county’s chief building official, during a Monday meeting with the commissioners.

For context, during the Cameron Peak Fire, 231 homes were destroyed, Fried told the Coloradoan.

Fried, along with Amy White, lead the damage assessment team for when events like this happen.

The rebuild program introduced at the meeting would include a maximum $1,000 reduction on the building permit fee for people who want to rebuild the homes damaged by the wildfire (and up to $500 for outbuildings).
