Friends, family remember Daniel Landeros 11 months after his passing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Sunday marked 11 months since Daniel Landeros was killed at Yokuts Park.

Family and friends continue to mourn the loss of the man who spent his life serving others, while the man accused of his murder waits for his next court appearance.

Daniel Landeros was shot dead at Yokuts Park September 18, 2023. He had just turned 43. That’s the last day Julie Ortero would get to talk to the man she called her son.

“The last time was on his birthday that morning,” said Ortero.

Ortero said Landeros came back from a birthday celebration at the beach in San Diego. When he got back to Bakersfield he called his friend. They went to eat, take a walk, and ended up at Yokuts Park.

The friend of Landeros dialed an Uber, but Landeros would never make it home.

“As he relates it to me, it was so fast,” said Ortero. “He was dialing when he heard the noise.”

BPD homicide detectives arrested 27-year-old Fredi Rivera of Delano October 4th for the crime.

Court documents show the friend of Landeros told detectives the two were confronted with a homosexual slur from Rivera who was at the park known for its high volume of homosexual activity.
