Hundreds of surfers compete for a good cause in Surfside Beach

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– More than 150 surfers hit the waves Saturday in Surfside Beach for the 24th Annual Guy Daniels Memorial Surf Off.

Its a two day event, Saturday was the short board competition and Sunday it all started back up again with the long board competition.

Surfers of all ages participate in the various heats.

News 13 got a chance to talk with a few young competitors.

“I like dropping in on a wave, and I like doing turns and I like getting barrels,” said Everly Musilunas. “Its about having fun, meeting new people and keeping the stoke alive.”

The Surf-Off is the largest fundraiser event for the foundation, and all proceeds raised from the event go toward student scholarships.

The competition was at 13th avenue South Beach access point in Surfside, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
