The fire department got a call at 3:41 a.m. Sunday from a man who said he heard screaming in the vicinity of a manhole on upper Great Highway near Vicente Street, said San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mariano Elias.

After all the proper protocols were observed, firefighters found the man and rescued him, extricating him from the pipe shortly after 5 a.m., according to Elias. The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with what Elias described as serious injuries.

Officers arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of driving under the influence after a pursuit in Stockton’s Seaport district Friday night, police said on social media.

The case began when the officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the woman’s vehicle in the 2900 block of South Turnpike Road, according to police. The driver allegedly did not yield, leading officers on a pursuit, police said.

South Jackson Avenue is no longer closed between Bambi and Cinderella lanes in San Jose and the bicyclist who was injured in an auto vs. bicyclist collision there has stabilized but remains in critical condition, San Jose police said on social media Sunday afternoon.
