The Crystal Apple: Natalie Dorman

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — It’s time for another edition of The Crystal Apple.

Once a month, News13 and Ultimate California Pizza honor a teacher, counselor or school administrator who is making a difference in their Grand Strand and Pee Dee communities.

This month’s Crystal Apple goes to Natalie Dorman, a science teacher at Aynor High School in Horry County. Dorman, a former teacher of the year at the school, is a lead person for science education, teaching physical science, biology, and chemistry.

Mrs. Dorman graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in marine science and went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in teaching. Those close to her say she could have pursued any career with her level of intelligence, but she chose to follow in her grandmother’s and mother’s footsteps and teach.

Dorman is known for her fierce dedication to her students. Recent Aynor High School graduate Olivia Ambrose said Dorman went the extra mile to make sure she was successful.

“Chemistry was a very weak subject for me in the first place, but I also missed consecutive weeks in the class due multiple deaths in my family that year,” Ambrose said. “I quickly started to fall behind and not understand the material, but Mrs. Dorman faithfully worked with me, providing study guides, writing notes for me on days I had missed, working one one-on-one with me, and always patiently explaining the answer to any question I asked.”
