Medical examiner identifies man who died in apparent drowning over the weekend at Tahoe

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died after being found unresponsive in the water at Lake Tahoe over the weekend as Francisco Villa Madrigal, 39, of San Jose, California.

The cause and manner of Madrigal’s death is still under investigation, the medical examiner’s office said Monday. No foul play is suspected.

About 1:20 p.m. Saturday, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to a possible drowning near Bonsai Rock at Lake Tahoe’s eastern shore.

Police found Madrigal unresponsive in the water. He was later transported to Sand Harbor where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning, police said.
