Woman accused of beating Lamont mother with hammer, demanding she hand over children: docs

BAKERSFIELD, Calf. (KGET) — After shattering sliding glass doors with a hammer, Maricruz Luna entered a Lamont home and demanded a woman inside hand over her children or she’d kill her, according to court documents.

Luna then hit her in the head and back before the woman — her name is redacted — managed to wrest the hammer away and raise it toward Luna, who screamed and retreated, the documents say.

Deputies arrived to find the woman outside, her children by her side. She was bleeding profusely from a wound to her head.

Still inside the home, Luna was “hysterically crying and screaming incoherently,” according to the documents. Deputies took her into custody and found a plastic baggie of suspected methamphetamine in her pocket.

Luna, 36, is being held without bail on charges including attempted murder, six counts of child cruelty — the filings say the children witnessed the incident — and vandalism. She’s due back in court next week.
