City provides free year-round grease collection for residents

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The City of Bakersfield is set to provide free year-round grease collection for residents.

City officials say the free program is available for residents to dispose of cooking oil and grease.

Residents must collect their cooking oil and grease in a sealed container before dropping it off at one of the city’s three collection sites.

Residents can drop off their cooking oil and grease at one of the three sites:

  • Bakersfield City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 which is located at 6901 McCutchen Rd.
  • The North of the River Sanitary District main office which is located at 204 Universe Ave.
  • Kern UCO which is located at 4031 Alken St. Ste A5

The drop-off sites are scheduled to be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Aug. 19, according to city officials. This does not include holidays.

City officials warn disposing of used cooking oil and grease down drains can result in clogged pipes and other costly damages.
