Gov. Kotek touts wildfire recovery, heads to DNC in Chicago

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Gov. Tina Kotek is one of Oregon’s 78 delegates to the Democratic National Convention and will be in Chicago as Vice President Kamala Harris accepts the party’s nomination for president.

But on Monday, Kotek was at Blazer Industries in Aumsville, where they’re building modular manufactured homes to replace homes destroyed in the MacKenzie River Valley during the 2020 wildfires.

Blazer Industries is one of four businesses geared to ramp up housing production under the governor’s legislative mandate. Kotek expects hundreds more units to be constructed and shipped to Oregon communities that need them.

“We’ve gotten through the pandemic,” Kotek said. “Wildfire recovery takes awhile, but we are now poised to put 20 new homes back on this spot in the MacKenzie River Valley where people are going to move back in, and they’ve been part of the conversation.”

Now the governor turns her thoughts to the Democratic National Convention. She endorsed Harris shortly after the vice president’s candidacy was announced.
