PHOTOS: Fiesta Mexicana parades through Woodburn

Dancing horses, souped up cars and tradition-keepers made their way through the heart of Woodburn for the 60th annual Fiesta Mexicana parade.

On Aug. 17, Woodburn opened its 60th annual Fiesta Mexicana with a jubilant parade that drew hundreds of residents to the center of town to watch the spectacle unfold. Residents looked on as local businesses, cultural dancers and more made their way through Woodburn’s streets, occasionally tossing candy — much to the delight of the younger spectators.

Crowds cheered as parade entrants made their way down the streets, making the trek from the Woodburn Aquatic Center to Legion Park.

Originally a commemoration of the city’s harvest, Woodburn’s Fiesta Mexicana began in 1963 as an expression of gratitude to the community’s farmworkers, and continues today as celebration of the wide variety of Mexican heritage claimed by local residents.
