WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) – A wildfire has forced the suspension of rail service in northern Nevada and left about 3,000 rural residents without power. But authorities say firefighters have halted the progress of the flames. The blaze has charred more than a square mile and temporarily shut down Interstate 80 about 165 miles northeast of Reno. About a dozen homes or other structures were threatened at one point near Winnemucca. But the U.S. Bureau of Land Management says no injuries or structure damage have been reported. A stretch of the railroad that serves Amtrak remained closed Tuesday night as safety inspectors assessed any potential damage.
