Nampa’s first day of school results in bus delays, confusion

NAMPA — The new academic year at Nampa School District got off to a bumpy start. Students taking the bus Monday afternoon arrived home hours late, and parents looking for their children could not find answers.

The latest dismissal in the district is for elementary students at 4:21 p.m., while high school and middle school end around 3:30 p.m. On Monday, some buses left schools as late as 5:50 p.m. according to district spokesperson Matt Sizemore.

“Took over an hour today for my kids’ bus,” one parent wrote on Facebook. “When I called their school the lady said she had no idea what was going on.”

This was a shared experience with many parents across the district wondering where their children were. Some reported that their children were home hours late. Buses were also behind schedule in the morning.

Sizemore was unsure as to how many buses had been delayed across the district.

The first-day debacle came on the heels of the Nampa School District switching bus contractors late this summer.
