After five years, a popular Mandarin restaurant is closing its doors

After five years, a popular Mandarin restaurant specializing in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches has some bad news for customers.

The Happy Grilled Cheese , at 9965 San Jose Blvd., #48, in Merchant’s Walk shopping center, will close effective Aug. 26, the restaurant announced Tuesday night on its Instagram page.

The restaurant prefaced the news by saying: “Well gang we’ve got a good ole fashioned good news/bad news situation on our hands.”

“Bad news first, our Mandarin location will be closing 8/26. That means this is your last week to come take it cheesy [with] us. We’ll be open for lunch now through Sunday the 25th. The good news is we are weighing some exciting options for the future of the space, so stay tuned,” the restaurant posted.

Remaining open is the original brick-and-mortar restaurant at 219 N. Hogan St. in downtown, the restaurant said.

The closure announcement came in a video of the restaurant with the Green Day song “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” playing in the background.
