State revokes Chesapeake daycare’s license, leaving parents scrambling

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Commonwealth of Virginia has revoked the operating license for Childtime Learning Center in Greenbrier after inspectors found repeated violations at the business over a four-month period.

Parents of children enrolled in daycare at Childtime found out via a letter Tuesday night that the business off Eden Way will shut its doors Friday.

While daycare management announced intentions to work with families to find placement at nearby Childtime and La Petite centers, no guarantees were made.

A parent who wished to not share his name said “many local parents are at a loss with no time to find alternate childcare.”

In a letter, District Manager Rachel Birsinger wrote that “due to prior license actions, we have been unable to find a solution what would enable us to operate without continued licensing disruptions.”

In a visit once each month from February through May, the Department of Education cited Childtime for not having conducted the proper background check for one of its employees, an instance of children being left unsupervised out on the playground, an injury not being documented and then multiple times that the center was found not to have enough staffing per child.
