Hampton schools’ speed enforcement cameras going into effect

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The new school year starts on Monday, Aug. 26 in Hampton and, as such, speed enforcement cameras will be in effect.

The city will begin its new program of camera enforcement in school zones during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Starting Monday, cameras will be positioned during those hours in the school zones near Hampton and Bethel high schools and Andrews Pre-K-8.

More school zones will be added in September. There will be a 30-day grace period during which motorists captured speeding in the school zones will receive written warnings. After the grace period, they will begin receiving $100 fines.
