Deputies: Parole absconder found with meth after fleeing into woods

BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a suspect was taken into custody in Bangor Township after he fled from police into the woods.

Around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the 28000 block of County Road 687, near 30th Avenue, to find “parole absconder and wanted suspect” Toby Farley, 46, according to a release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say when they approached the home, Farley ran into the woods carrying a wooden cane and ignored commands to stop. Deputies chased him on foot.

“Deputies deployed a Taser, but it did not work,” the release says.

Farley tried to grab the Taser and then continued running, eventually wading into calf-deep water, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say they caught up to Farley and ended up using pepper spray.

Farley was taken into custody, and deputies learned he had 7.65 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket, according to the sheriff’s office.

Farley was treated on scene, then jailed on multiple felony charges, the release says.
