Jacksonville company adopts nearby San Jose Elementary School; volunteers beautify campus

Jacksonville’s NexGen Roofing adopted a nearby school, San Jose Elementary , and on a recent Saturday brought 65 employees and other volunteers on campus for a work day.

Organized by the company’s foundation , they helped beautify the campus by painting, landscaping and building new picnic tables. The goal was “to create a more inspiring learning environment,” according to the company.

About 1½ years ago, NexGen contacted the school to “partner in some way,” said Brandon Cornellier, co-founder and chief operating officer. “It’s an underserved school, it’s beyond capacity … and a lot of kids that come here are refugees from other countries. We saw that there was a tremendous need for us … to be a catalyst, raising funds to make sure these students have what they needed to be successful in school.”
