Governor Parson signs bill to address ‘sludge’ concerns in southwest Missouri

PINEVILLE, Mo. – Missouri Governor Mike Parson signs into law a bill state legislators say has been years in the making. At a ceremony in Pineville Wednesday afternoon, Parson ceremonially signed into law legislation passed this year aimed at addressing the “sludge” issue in McDonald and Newton Counties. Commonly known as “sludge,” byproducts from industrial facilities, like food processors, have been stored in lagoons and spread as fertilizer on fields in both counties.
