Pregnant woman said she accidentally hit teen girl with SUV during altercation: docs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Nia McKnight wasn’t about to let anyone disrespect her mother.

So when she heard her sister had mouthed off, she went looking for her. She intended to fight her, McKnight told deputies.

But other relatives were with the sister when McKnight drove an SUV to a Bakersfield house the afternoon of Aug. 13. McKnight got out and confronted her, hitting her before getting struck by someone else, she said according to newly available court filings.

Outnumbered, she got back in the SUV then drove onto the front yard, speeding up to smash into the house’s southeast corner, according to witness statements contained in the filings. The impact collapsed the southeast wall.

McKnight — who’s about two months pregnant — backed up and turned around before accelerating again.

The SUV hit a 14-year-old girl — McKnight claimed the teen jumped in front of her — pinning her against a tree stump, the filings say. She then sped away, and was later taken into custody at a hotel.
